                                       Quality Assurance

 Policy
The mission of Nebraska Urban Indian Medical Center is to elevate the health status of Native Americans to the highest level possible, as well as to serve persons currently underserved in our community.  Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement is an essential component of all medical clinic operations.  Nebraska Urban Indian Medical Center is an organization committed to continuous improvement that is customer driven.

 Procedure

1.     Everyone employed within the NUIMC clinic will participate in the Quality Improvement Plan.

     2.   This plan of quality improvement will provide care within the scope of clinical practice, encompassing
provider and nursing activities, which are directed toward health problems of various levels of complexity.

    3.  Annually, 10% of the average number of patients seen monthly will be requested to complete a Patient
Satisfaction Survey.  If the patient has difficulty completing the items, a staff member will read each item to
the patient, and assist the patient in completion of the survey.

    4.  Evaluation of patient care will be based on observable response of patients and patient records.

    5. Results of the Patient Satisfaction Survey will assist the staff in making changes, which will result in improved
        and/or additional services being provided.

    6. Surveys will take place within the last quarter of the current calendar year.

   7. The Clinic Manager will forward the completed compilation of the surveys to the Executive Director no later than
the end of the first month of the calendar year.

    8. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors at the next scheduled meeting.

    9. Additional quality improvement activities include annual patient chart audits.

    10. The staff will audit 10% of the average monthly number of patients seen on an annual basis.

    11. The Clinic Office Manager will manage the overall plan and activities.

12. The Clinic Office Manager will be immediately responsible for evaluation of medical care on all patients.
The provider and Office Manager review “problem cases” as soon as possible.

13.  Communication to all clinic staff regarding audit results and recommendations for improvement is
relayed through monthly staff meetings and any individual communication via memos or with individual
staff members as needed.

Implementation of quality improvement is supplied by:

     1.      Firm commitment by administration to recognize the importance of Nebraska Urban Indian Medical Center
and to the necessity of operating in a manner that provides the highest standard of care.

2.      Education of the public and our patients of the importance of disease prevention and wellness,
through providing patient education and instruction at the time of patient appointments, and/or through
   public information events.

3.     Orientation, education and utilization of concerned members of the community who provided valuable
   volunteer service hours.
