Access to Care Policy and Procedure Manual

 

Policy

All patients will be seen within 30 minutes of the scheduled appointments or will be offered an opportunity to
reschedule the current appointment or continue to wait for the scheduled appointment that day.

 Procedure

  1. Patients will be scheduled for an appointment with their chosen Primary Care Provider within a reasonable
    time after the request.
     
  1. All new patients will be instructed to arrive at the clinic 30 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment
    time to complete the Patient Demographics Information and Personal History Information. 
     
  1. After the initial appointment, the patient will schedule an appointment for a follow-up appointment as
    instructed by their provider.
     
  1. Patients will be taken to the examination room within 30 minutes of their scheduled appointment.
     
  1. Patients will have their initial assessment done by clinic nursing staff which includes, but is not
    limited to temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure reading, height, weight, history of tobacco
    use, birth control method used and current medications.
     
  1. If the patient has not been assessed by the Primary Care Provider after the initial assessment by
    nursing staff within 30 minutes of entry to exam room, the patient will be offered an opportunity to reschedule
    the appointment, or choose to wait for the Primary Care Provider.
     
  1. Patient rights and responsibilities are posted in clinic for patient to access and make themselves aware of.
     
  1. All clients will be accepted, regardless of their sexual orientation, age, ethnic background, religious preference,
    or ability to pay.
     
  1. After hours coverage will not be provided by NUIMC providers.  However, patients are instructed to call
    Bryan Nurse-On-Call at (402) 481-5500.
     
  1. NUIMC providers will provide patients with information concerning their diagnosis, treatment plan,
    and prognosis.
