Policy

All requests for nursing services will be handled promptly by the nursing staff and/or a provider at Nebraska Urban Indian Medical Center.

 Procedure

  1. The staff member who receives a request for nursing services will obtain all information pertinent to providing the proper care for that patient.  This information may include, but is not limited to:  patient’s name, telephone number, date of birth, and the signs and symptoms of the problem they are having.

  1. The staff member will write a triage note and place it in the patient’s medical record in the Progress Notes.

  1. The chart will then be routed to the appropriate nursing staff.  If the nurse has standing orders for the patient’s problem and is within their scope of practice, they may administer proper care, according to those standing orders and/or provider’s orders.  See Standing Order Policy and Procedure Manual in this section.
